ATTENTION ALL PATIENTS
Bernstein Allergy Group is committed to providing the safest clinical environment to deliver care during this pandemic therefore we are taking a proactive approach to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As of today, we are limiting office visits to those patients with acute/uncontrolled conditions like severe asthma, severe allergic rhinitis, and severe hives/angioedema/anaphylaxis. All non-urgent patients – elderly patients, COPD/severe asthma patients that are stable, immunodeficiency patients, patients scheduled for food or drug challenges, allergic shots, OIT, eczema, food allergy, allergic rhinitis patient, etc. will be rescheduled for a later date or can be seen through telemedicine. OIT patients can maintain on their current dose picking up additional solution they might need at the office and allergy shots patients can rebuild back up when things calm down.
All patients, except Medicare patients, can be seen through our telemedicine program. If you have a scheduled visit coming up in the next few weeks please call the office and we can set you up to be seen online for all standard appointments including annual check-ups, medication refills, mild flare-ups, etc.
If you are concerned you have COVID-19, we recommend you seek care first from our telemedicine service or call our office or your primary care physician. A healthcare professional can evaluate you over the phone and determine if you meet the CDC guidelines for testing based on symptoms, travel and exposures. If you do meet the criteria, you will be advised as to how to proceed with testing. The Ohio Department of Health also has set up a COVID-19 hotline (1-833-4-ASK-ODH) for those with questions or concerns.
COVID-19 is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation therefore the above recommendations can change based on daily/weekly events and we will do our best to provide you with updates as this pandemic evolves. It’s important to keep in mind that the majority of COVID-19 cases are mild and only a small percentage of patients will require hospitalization. The majority of patients will be able to recover at home. Currently, care for COVID-19 patients is supportive as there are no medications available to treat this disease.
We encourage everyone to practice regular infection prevention techniques such as washing their hands frequently, avoiding touching their faces, cough etiquette and staying home when they are sick. For up-to-date information about the Coronavirus pandemic visit the CDC’s coronavirus website.
If we all do our part, we can help to curb the spread. Be well.
